Our Badge of Honor

Scripture
In God we boast all day long, and praise Your name forever. Selah.
(Psalm 44:8)
Devotional
We wear various badges of honor. Often, we boast of previous escapades and brag about the sins of our youth as if they were honorable deeds. We likewise often wear our religion as a badge of honor. We boast and stand arrogantly on our doctrines instead of on the doctrine giver, the Lord Jesus Christ. We put more faith and trust in what we believe than in whom we believe.
Our only true badge of honor is to be the Lord our God. In Him we are to boast, not in our doctrines or ourselves. The psalmist uses the refrain “Selah,” which means to ponder and meditate on what has been said. We are to reflect on our lives. We are to ponder and measure our badges of honor, and ask, “Is Christ truly my badge of honor? Is He the boast of my life?” Whatever glory we have, let it be in the Lord.

Defining:  “Honor,” that which merits high esteem, respect, glory, applause, gratitude, thanksgiving, praise, worship, and blessing. To whom are these due? There is but one, God. Man may merit portions—fathers and mothers, teachers and preachers, but all glory laud and honor goes to the One true God.

Referencing: “‘Let him who glories glory in this, that he understands and knows Me, that I am the Lord, exercising lovingkindness, judgment, and righteousness in the earth. For in these I delight,’ says the Lord,” Jeremiah 9:24.

Applying: Give a rightful amount of honor to whom honor is due, but give all honor to the One to Whom all honor is due, the Lord Christ Jesus.
