It Is Not About Me

Scripture
For My own sake, for My own sake I will do it… And I will not give My glory to another.
(Isaiah 48:11)
Devotional
Here is a word for the most mature of believers: It is not about you! In our self-centered culture, Christianity is seen as a give me religion. It is all about what can God do for me? How can He make my life better? Post-modern Christianity has softened the holiness of God and celebrated the vanity of man. We simply think that it is all about me. The truth of the faith is that it is all about God. We are to be more interested in giving Him praise and worship than in Him giving us blessings and prosperity. The latter is simply a byproduct. We are to give God the glory, not draw attention to ourselves. We cater to the caterers. We shop for comfort instead of the Comforter. We look for attention when we need atonement. It should not be, "what can God do for me", but "what would God have me to do?" Let us get the focus off of ourselves and on Christ. For His sake, for His own sake.
