Title

Beware The Kisses Of Flattery

Scripture
Faithful are the wounds of a friend, but the kisses of an enemy are deceitful.
(Proverbs 27:6)
Devotional
We are to grasp this truth as both a recipient and giver. We are to be faithful in receiving as well as giving a rebuke. A friend will always tell the truth, but always for the purpose of edification. Likewise we are to always openly listen to a rebuke of a friend even though it may wound us. On the other hand, we should learn to listen cautiously to that which flatters and overly complements. I have found that when an assumed friend is repeatedly confirming his or her friendship, the friendship is weak, very weak. More than often, that “friend” is attempting to cover less than friendly emotions. I hate to say it, however, when someone repeatedly confirms their love or friendship with me, the first thought that comes to my mind is, “Something is wrong!” Whenever you are being bombarded with the kisses of conformation and complements, be on your guard. Do not take it to heart.
