Title

Never Begrudge Leadership

Scripture
Let the elders who rule well be counted worthy of double honor, especially those who labor in the word and doctrine.
(1 Timothy 5:17)
Devotional
It is wise to have our leaders well compensated for their efforts. Never begrudge godly leadership its due reward, which is honor and compensation. You should not want your leaders to have to be more concerned with meeting the necessities of life than with meeting the needs of those they lead. We should desire those that lead us to have the freedom to do so. It is not a matter of comforts and privileges. It is a matter of honor and wisdom. Whether in government, business or the church, those who lead well are to be counted worthy of double honor, especially in the household of God. The first financial obligation of a church is to honor the pastor, remembering that he does not work for you. He works for the Lord and is compensated by the Lord through the tithe. Pastors are not to be hirelings. They are called to lead the church; the church is not called to lead them.
