Admonish the young women to love their husbands, to love their children, to be discreet, chaste, homemakers… that the word of God may not be blasphemed.

Here we have God’s highest calling for women. The office of wife and mother is honorable above all other offices. Here, in these few short verses of scripture, we have God’s clear direction for teaching younger women. They are instructed in what to do, how they are to do it and why it is to be done. Mothers and grandmothers are to teach their daughters and granddaughters to love their families. They are to teach them to be wise and modest in their behavior. It is a wise mother who teaches her daughter how to manage a household. The home is the greatest family business there is. The administration of it is crucial. The reason for this instruction is that marriage and the home are sacramental. They are a visible form of God’s invisible grace. There is no greater testimony of a godly lifestyle than that which is expressed in the home.
