Have You Asked?

Scripture
…You do not have because you do not ask.
(James 4:2)
Devotional
Anything of any value that I have, I have because I asked for it, from the hand of my wife to the church that I pastor. The apostle James goes on to say in the next verse, “You ask and do not receive, because you ask amiss.” In essence, your motives are wrong. It is for this reason that if we do ask, we end up asking half-heartedly. There is not boldness in our request. We ask apologetically, giving the recipient of our request an easy out. Furthermore, we often do not know what we really want. We ask without knowing what we want or why we want it. Know what you want. Get your desire from the Lord and go for it with all your heart. Keep on asking until you get what you asked for. Ask honestly, clearly and consistently. Do not apologize for asking and expect a positive reply. Do not badger, coerce or condescend, but rather inform, and encourage with genuine enthusiasm.
