Title

Lemuel’s Mother

Scripture
Do not give your strength to women, not your ways to that which destroys kings.
(Proverbs 31:3)
Devotional
All we know about Lemuel’s mother is what we have here in the last chapter of Proverbs.  We do know that her wisdom merited being in the eternal Word of God. The utterance she gave her son remains wise instruction to this day. Mankind is sensual and prone to succumb to their passions. Therefore, restraint is the order of the day. To have any level of success, one must practice the discipline of overcoming the passions of the physical body. If we are unable to discipline our sexual desires, how can we lead and attain any level of significance? Yielding to sexual passions or any addictive lifestyle is that which destroys kings. The apostle Peter tells us that we, “Are a chosen generation, a royal priesthood, a holy nation, His own special people.” We are children of the King, and as Lemuel’s mother instructs, we are not to give our strength to women or our ways to that which destroys kings.
