Title

Time Your Words Wisely

Scripture
A man has joy by the answer of his mouth, and a word spoken in due season, how good it is!
(Proverbs 15:23)
Devotional
There is nothing better than speaking the right words at the right time. Likewise, there are few things as repulsive as those who perpetually speak the wrong words at the wrong time. You know them and cringe when you see them coming. They seem to say their words at the most inopportune time. They can ruin the best of days with their awkward words, even though their words are true. They are unseasonable. These are those who speak for the purpose of drawing attention to themselves. This is the purpose of their words. Love them, but mark them.
Let us not be like that untimely talker, but let us mark our words, weighing them carefully and speaking them only for the purpose of edification. If you find yourself speaking to get the attention of another, most likely you are speaking in an untimely manner. Time your words wisely and your words will reward you.

“To know how to say what other people only think, is what makes men poets and sages; and to dare to say what others only dare to think, makes men martyrs or reformers.” Elizabeth Rundle Charles in Chronicles of the Schonberg-Cotta Family, Christianity Today.
