Title

Avoiding the Foolishness of Youth

Scripture
O God, You have taught me from my youth; and to this day I declare Your wondrous works.
(Psalm 71:17)
Devotional
What an awesome testimony! O to have known the Lord as the psalmist, “From my youth.” To have had Christ in my youth would be immeasurable. What a blessing to have been able to avoid the Christless foolishness of youth, and to have kept a good testimony throughout life. Parents, make sure your children know the Lord. Question them as well as teach them. Train them in the way they are to go so that when they are old they will not depart from that path. Instruct them daily. Don’t send them to church; take them. Make the fellowship of the believers a family affair. If they attend Sunday school class, ask them what they have learned. It may be wise to even attend a class with them. Know what they are learning, not only in church, but also in all their schooling. Be aggressive in your children’s education, both spiritual and secular. Do so that they might have this testimony.

Defining: “Foolishness of youth” is when the hormone level is higher than the intelligence and reason levels. It is likewise the time that a little knowledge is misjudged as all-knowing.

Referencing: “When I was a child, I spoke as a child, I understood as a child, I thought as a child; but when I became a man, I put away childish things,” 1 Corinthians 13:11.

Applying: Don’t just grow up and older, mature in Christ. Put away childish things and become childlike. There is a great difference in the two.
