Title

The Power of the Word

Scripture
Now when He said to them, “I am He,” they drew back and fell to the ground.
(John 18:6)
Devotional
The words of Jesus were so powerful because the Word of God is so powerful; and they are one and the same. Jesus is the Word. By His Word He spoke all of creation into existence. By His word He can save and change the vilest of sinners. Even His enemies have to proclaim, “No man ever spoke life this man!” The Bible is God’s Word. Jesus Is God. Therefore the Bible is the power of God. The apostle Paul proclaimed to the Romans, “For I am not ashamed of the gospel of Christ, for it is the power of God.” It is for this reason that we are to reverence God’s Word. Those who sought to arrest Him could not stand when the Word spoke. How much more should His people at least stand in awe of the Word? When it is read, it should be read reverently. When it is heard, it should be listened to with an ear of obedience. It is the power of God.
Thought For The Night
“Too many times we miss so much because we live on the low level of the natural, the ordinary, the explainable. We leave no room for God to do the exceeding abundant thing above all that we can ask or think.” Vance Havner, Vance Havner Quote Book
