Title

Follow the Leader Who Follows the Leader

Scripture
You led Your people like a flock by the hand of Moses and Aaron.
(Psalm 77:20)
Devotional
God always leads with leaders. Whenever God chose to lead His people, He did so with people. He could have sent angels, but He chose ordinary people with extraordinary faith. This has been His way throughout history and His way has not changed.
Consider the leaders God has picked: Moses, who was slow of speech, David the shepherd, and youngest of seven brothers, Peter, a hot-tempered fisherman, and even people like you. Yes! God has chosen you to lead. He first and foremost wants you to lead a life worthy of His calling. He wants you to lead others to a saving knowledge of His Son. And, He wants you to rise to a lifestyle of leadership with regard to whatever He has called you to do.
Now, there is one thing that all great leaders have in common: they are all great followers. Just consider Moses, the humblest man who ever lived, David, a man after God’s own heart, and Peter, the great lion of God. All were followers before they became leaders.
Thought For The Night

S. I. McMillen, in his book, None of These Diseases, tells a story of a young woman who wanted to go to college, but her heart sank when she read the question on the application blank that asked, “Are you a leader?” Being both honest and conscientious, she wrote, “No,” and returned the application, expecting the worst. To her surprise, she received this letter from the college: “Dear Applicant: A study of the application forms reveals that this year our college will have 1,452 new leaders. We are accepting you because we feel it is imperative that they have at least one follower.”

Defining: “Lead”: To go before and show the way. To lead, one must know the way—to know the way the one leading must be following the right way. Jesus is the way, the truth and the life that leads us to the Father. Therefore, make sure that you are leading by following those who are following Christ.

Referencing: “Let my lord, I pray thee, pass over before his servant: and I will lead on softly,” Genesis 33:14 (KJV)

Applying: Follow the leader who follows Christ and be the leader who follows Christ. Therefore, lead, follow, or get out of the way.
