Title

Don't Be Despicable

Scripture
Speak these things, exhort, and rebuke with all authority. Let no one despise you.
(Titus 2:15)
Devotional
I would like to emphasize the phrase, "Let no one despise you." Consider: We cannot demand to be accepted; we can only present ourselves in an acceptable manner. We cannot insist that others like us; we can only show ourselves likeable. We cannot expect others to hear us unless we have something relevant to say. We will be despised if we are despicable. Therefore when we have opportunity to, "speak the things which are proper for sound doctrine,"[2] let us do so soundly. Whenever the occasion arises to encourage (exhort) let us do so wisely. If we have to correct (rebuke) we can only do so with the proper authority. Likewise, let us not despise those who are willing to teach, encourage or correct. Be teachable, receive instruction and be willing to be corrected. "For whom the Lord loves He corrects, Just as a father the son in whom he delights."[3]
