Title

Hold The Shield

Scripture
Having done all, to stand. Stand therefore... above all, taking the shield of faith with which you will be able to quench all the fiery darts of the wicked one.
(Ephesians 6:13-14&16)
Devotional
There is no word more powerful in all the scriptures than faith. "Faith is the substance of things hoped for, the evidence of things not seen."[16] Our text refers to it as a shield by which we are able to stop the attacks of the deceiver. Rightly applied faith is: believing in Christ, trusting Him in all life's situations and obeying His Word as it is revealed to us. Faith like a shield must be at the ready, movable, fit for the battle. A stored shield has little use; it is meant to bet taken up daily. Unfortunately many of our shields are used for parades only. We take them out and polish them to be shown in God's house. We wave them in song, display them in service and store them until we meet again. The assembling of the believers is the place where we are to work on our shields, increasing their size. This we are to do, not to store them in the House, but to use them during and when we leave the House. Let us always remember, "Without faith it is impossible to please Him."[17]
