Title

Base Emotion or Choice?

Scripture
To everything there is a season, a time for every purpose under heaven
(Ecclesiastes 3:1&8a)
Devotional
It is always the right time to love those who have been created in the image of God. And it is always the right time to hate sin, but it is not always the right time to manifest them. Love and hate are the two base passions of this world; they are overwhelmingly controlled by emotional feelings. But God says that these are actions that can and should be chosen. Instead of waiting to fall in love, I am to choose to love. Instead of being controlled by anger, hate and the like, I am to control them. I am likewise to know when to display love and hate. It is not always appropriate for example to demonstrate my love for my wife, as it is not always appropriate to demonstrate my hatred for evil. The Wisdom of Solomon tells us that the time to love and hate is dependent of life's situation, not man's base emotion.
