Doubtful Things

Scripture
Receive one who is weak in the faith, but not to disputes over doubtful things.
(Romans 14:1)
Devotional
There seems to be much in the Bible that is disputable. I guess that is why there are a verity of denominations. Our text in essence is saying that we are to accept people into the fellowship of the believers that may have differing views on disputable issues. And there are many: The mode of baptism, music, clergy, the order of the worship service and a verity of other opinions. However, even though there may be differences on "doubtful things," a new believer or member of a local church ought to acquiesce to the preferences of the leadership of the church. If you came from a church that differs in style and you desire to join with a new fellowship of believers, do so submissively. Let us not major on the minor. Most of the "doubtful things" are obviously minutia to the Lord. If they were not, they would obviously be more explicit. "Behold, how good and how pleasant it is for brethren to dwell together in unity!"[16]
