Let every soul be subject to the governing authorities. For there is no authority except from God, and the authorities that exist are appointed by God.
(Romans 13:1)
Devotional
"Most people want to have God's direct authority, but God's more frequent way is to set up direct or delegated authorities for us to obey."[14] The sin that caused the fall of mankind was in a word, "disobedience," "For as by one man's disobedience many were made sinners."[15] You show me a man who says, "I submit to God and God alone," and I'll show you a man who is a rebel. When God appoints His designated authority, He grants that person authority. Therefore authority can be misused, abused and confused. Nevertheless we are to submit to the authorities God has placed in our lives: parents, pastors and teachers and all governing authorities. I know that we can produce hypothetical "what ifs" that may give reason to refute our text, but let God be true and every man a liar.
