Title

Rebuke a Rebellious Child

Scripture
His father had not rebuked him at any time by saying, "Why have you done so?" He was also very good-looking. His mother had borne him after Absalom.
(1 Kings 1:6)
Devotional
Adonijah's lack of discipline may have cost him his life. You know the story. Adonijah began to act like he was to replace David as king. Several prominent leaders followed him. And David said nothing, even though the successor was to be Solomon. The verse gives us a little to consider for the reason that David did not rebuke Adonijah: "He was very good looking." Appearance has a way of drawing favor. Think about the "popular," the majority of them are attractive. Secondly, "His mother had borne him after Absalom." The story of Absalom is sadder than that of Adonijah. Absalom likewise rebelled against the king, attempting to take the kingdom from David. He died in his efforts. I do not think that our text mentions Adonijah being the younger brother of Absalom to show his genealogy. Being the younger brother of a lost son may have caused David to be guilt driven and fearful to rebuke and lose another son. If this is so, it is obvious; he was wrong.
