The Works of God

Scripture
They said to Him, "What shall we do, that we may work the works of God?" Jesus answered and said to them, "This is the work of God, that you believe in Him whom He sent."
(John 6:28-29)
Devotional
Here we have the work of faith:[28] To believe in Christ. This faith always comes with the nuance of obedience. The greater emphasis however is that of believing in the work of Christ over the work of man. The people were asking, "What things do we have to do?" Christ answered in essence, "Your work is to believe in Me." Here we have the simplicity of the gospel. We are to apply the measure of faith we have and place it in Christ. This does not mean that we can simply say, "I believe," and there not be an evidence of that belief. Belief is the work of God to which we are called. To say that we believe in Christ and live as if we do not believe is either hypocrisy or believing a lie. Therefore the most intricate aspect of faith is first of all belief, which flows into trust and is evident by obedience. The works of God are not things we do, but a person in whom we believe, trust and obey.
