(John 1:29)
Devotional
How awesome it must have been for John to realize that his cousin was the Savior of the World. I would imagine that as children they played together at family gatherings, went to the temple together and to Jerusalem for holidays. Instead of, "look its my cousin Jesus," it was "Behold! The Lamb of God who takes away the sin of the world." John was more than famous. People would come from great distances to hear this one crying in the wilderness and quoting the prophet Isaiah,[16] "Prepare the way of the Lord."[17] Yet John in his bold humility also said, "He must increase, but I must decrease."[18] Jesus said of his cousin, "Among those born of women there is not a greater prophet than John the Baptist." He likewise added with regard to His power as the Lamb of God, "but he who is least in the kingdom of God is greater than he."[19]
