Title

Visible Leadership

Scripture
All Israel and Judah loved David, because he went out and came in before them.
(1 Samuel 18:16)
Devotional
Here is a great lesson in leadership. It is one thing to have ability to lead; it is another to have those that you lead love you as well. David was not only a valiant man and a great warrior, he obviously loved people. He was visible in his dealings with them. The people not only heard of his exploits, they saw him perform them. Whenever there is turmoil, peril or threatening change, the people want to see their leaders going out and coming in before them. When things are smooth and problem free, a leader can go about the everyday business of leading, but when there is uncertainty of any kind, a leader needs to be seen. After September 11, 2001, the United States was in a state of shock and fear. We needed to see our president. He became very visible and in a short time received the highest approval rating of any previous president. All America loved the president. Whether you are a parent, corporate or civic leader, you not only need to lead, you need to be seen leading especially when trials and tribulations arise.
