Title

The First Commandment

Scripture
"You shall have no other gods before Me."
(Exodus 20:3)
Devotional
At one time or another, most of us have had the wrong view of God. Therefore we in essence have had another god before the true and Living God. The wrong concept equates to the wrong god. If your idea of God differs from the God of the Word, you have a false god. If you believe that every theory of God is acceptable and that all religions lead to heaven, you have violated the first commandment. We cannot separate the commandments from the entirety of the Word of God. The Bible is not a smorgasbord from which one can pick and choose. The pluralistic approach to the god of our day must be repulsive to the God of the Decalogue. If your god is all loving, yet without judgment, you serve the wrong god. If your god is all merciful, but has no justice, you have another god before you. Whatever or whomever has priority over the Creator of the universe in your life is functioning as another god. Repent and turn to the One who commands, "You shall have no other gods before Me."
