Title

Dealing With Authority

Scripture
Jesus spoke to the multitudes and to His disciples, saying: "The scribes and the Pharisees sit in Moses' seat. Therefore whatever they tell you to observe, that observe and do."
(Matthew 23:1-3)
Devotional
Authority is authority no mater what the motive or character. The only time authority is to be ignored or refused is when that authority instructs one to violate the unadulterated Word of God. Whether held with high integrity or fraudulence, we are to honor and obey all God given authority. Consider Romans 13:1-2, "Let every soul be subject to the governing authorities. For there is no authority except from God, and the authorities that exist are appointed by God. Therefore whoever resists the authority resists the ordinance of God, and those who resist will bring judgment on themselves."[3] All authority is governing authority; whether in the home or society, all government has to have authority. This authority is to be obeyed, even if it is pharisaical in nature. God know and God will deal with false authority. The apostle Peter furthermore instructs, therefore submit yourselves to every ordinance of man for the Lord's sake."[4]
