Devotional
Peter's original name was most likely Simeon. His father's name was Jonah of Beth-saida. Peter later lived in Capernaum with his wife where he worked as a fisherman along with his brother Andrew. Peter clearly appears to have been the leader among the apostles. He along with James and John made up the inter circle of those the closest to Jesus. If there was an instance that catapulted Peter to his high level of notoriety, it was when he answered Christ's question, "Who do you say that I am?" To which he answered, "You are the Christ, the Son of the living God."[6] Peter in his early years as a disciple was a outspoken man of emotional impulse. After the resurrection he became a solid rock standing on his profession of Christ the Rock on which the church has been built. Peter the apostle of the church fills the book of acts and reveals his apostolic teaching in his two letters. His character is revealed in his introduction to his last letter, "Simon Peter, a bondservant and apostle of Jesus Christ."[7]
