Title

For What Do You Hunger

Scripture
Blessed are those who hunger and thirst for righteousness, for they shall be filled.
(Matthew 5:6)
Devotional
Without a hunger man is at best slothful. It is hunger that drives one to work. Consider the wild beasts; they will seek diligently for food. Once it is found they do little more than slumber until the pangs of hunger strike again. It likewise takes a hunger for us to be motivated toward any endeavor. Hunger will drive us to something. The question is, "For what do you hunger?" What drives you? What gets you out of bed not only early but also eagerly? Unfortunately for most it is only a carnal pleasure. I am of the mindset that there is great power in choice. We can choose our pleasures, desires, goals and dreams. We do not have to be driven by mere emotions or sensual appetites. These can never be eternally satisfied. Righteousness can. Therefore let us hunger for it above all. Let us heed the Lord when He, within a few verses, says, "Seek first the kingdom of God and His righteousness, and all these things shall be added to you."[13]
