The first few verses of the book of Proverbs are given to define the purpose of the proverbs. Here we are told that they are self-explanatory and that they give us understanding of life's perplexities and mysteries. Through the enlightenment of the Proverbs we can gain understanding into many other matters. It is amazing how insight in one area can give us wisdom in another. There is a progression to knowledge, wisdom and understanding, even if they are not related in subject matter. Therefore let us ponder and muse on these words of great wisdom and guidance. Let us do our level best to apply them in our lives and teach them to those that are dear to us. If we can gain the understanding of the Proverbs, we will surely be more apt to understand the workings of this world, the motives of man and God's purpose for life. Proverbs, enigmas, the words of the wise and their riddles can be at our disposal.
