Title

Dealing With Gain

Scripture
So are the ways of everyone who is greedy for gain; it takes away the life of its owners.
(Proverbs 1:19)
Devotional
Gain for gain's sake brings everything but the happiness sought by it. Instead of owning possessions, possessions own you. Gain in itself is good, if that gain is used in a godly manner. Growth, expansion and success in business or industry are to be diligently sought after, but not for the sake of greed. How do we distinguish the difference between godly gain and greed? Greed is always self-serving. It takes and hoards and does so at any cost. Godly gain is achieved by giving, sharing and paying the right price. Greed never satisfies. Godliness brings contentment. Godly gain comes with peace, while greed is in a perpetual state of war. Greed brings separation and causes divorce. Godly gain brings unity and covenant relationships. Greed is deceiving. It is very hard to distinguish from godly success. The greedy will always attempt to justify themselves and blame others. Godliness is not so.
