We Are To Be A People Of Covenant

No longer shall your name be called Abram, but your name shall be called Abraham

Devotional
Everything that God does with regard to mankind, He does by way of Covenant. Several things happen when we enter into a covenant with God. First and foremost, He is the covenant maker and the covenant keeper. We are the recipients of His covenants. When God makes a covenant, it is by way of sacrifice. With Abraham, it was through the sacrifice of animals. For you and me, it is through the sacrifice of His Son. Furthermore, there is a change of names or titles. God changes Abram's name to Abraham by giving him part of His own name. To Abram God added the letter HA from His own name Jehovah. And God took Abraham's name by referring to Himself as the God of Abraham. You and I have, likewise, entered into this covenant relationship by taking on the name Christians. We have become God's children and have taken on the name of Christ Himself. There is a new name written down in glory and it is yours.
