Title

To Whom Are We Looking?

Scripture
When they had lifted up their eyes, they saw no one but Jesus only.
(Matthew 17:8)
Devotional
There are many people to be respected and honored, but only one is to be revered, venerated and worshipped. James, Peter and John were in awe of seeing Moses and Elijah, and rightfully so, but even they had to fade in comparison to Jesus. We are in awe of the apostles. We look to them for guidance and rightfully so. We are to seek wise counsel and submit to godly leadership. However, as the writer of the book of Hebrews says, "Let us lay aside every weight, and the sin which so easily ensnares us, and let us run with endurance the race that is set before us, looking unto Jesus, the author and finisher of our faith."[19] Jesus trumps all other players. He is the one who will ultimately be standing at the end. Therefore let us keep our eyes fixed on Him. Ready and willing to stay the course or ready to move and change directions at His command.
