"Dishonest Scales"

Scripture
Dishonest scales are an abomination to the LORD, but a just weight is His delight.
(Proverbs 11:1)
Devotional
Do you have any dishonest scales in your life? The term, "Dishonest scales" is a metaphor for any pretense we may be presenting in our lives. It could be anything from lying about our age or weight to making claims of grandeur which we've never achieved. Others can be patronizing remarks or an artificial compliment. Many appear innocent or even acceptable, but they are the seeds of deception and ruin.

Most, if not all, damnable lies are birthed as apparent courtesies or protectors of face. If scales are off in lighter matters, things of life are horrendous in weightier matters. Whether in governments or businesses, marriages or families, there is no room for any form of scale tilting or misrepresentation, but edifying truth. This does not mean that every truth needs to be exposed, but that the truth is to be told in love and with honest scales.
