Title

Acceptable Words

Scripture
The lips of the righteous know what is acceptable, but the mouth of the wicked know what is perverse.
(Proverbs 10:32)
Devotional
Knowing what to say and when to say it is better than the most eloquent words spoken at the wrong time and to the wrong person. It matters not how truthful the words, if spoken out of order they can be as harmful as the greatest of lies. From compliments to sharing information, timing can make the words either acceptable or perverse. The righteous know the right time. They simply do it right. That is what righteousness is, doing it right. These are people who speak with a purpose. Their words are meant for edification, correction or chastisement, but always in truth and with love. Even if spoken out of anger, they are not meant for revenge, but that the truth would be received and applied. The perverse in speech are not so. They speak their emotions and timing is irrelevant. Being heard is all that matters to them. Therefore, let us ask, are my words acceptable or perverse?
