The Evidence of the Fool and the Wise
Scripture
The way of a fool is right in his own eyes, but he who heeds counsel is wise.
(Proverbs 12:15)
Devotional
Those who know the least seem to know it the loudest. They are boasters, proud and arrogant in their supposed understanding of life and all that it has to offer. Jude calls them, "Clouds without water, carried about by the wind."[1] When you come across the loud and boisterous, mark them, love them and ignore them. However, when you come across one who seeks counsel and asks more questions than he or she gives answers, heed and listen intently, for you have come across the wise. In like manner, if you find yourself in the way of the fool, stop your rambling and start yielding. Proverbs furthermore tells us, "Even a fool is counted wise when he holds his peace; when he shuts his lips, he is considered perceptive."[2] For, you see, if you are one who is right in his or her own eyes, the wise have already marked you. They love you, because they are wise, but they mark you as well.
