One Thing is Needed

Scripture
"Martha, Martha, you are worried and troubled about many things. But one thing is needed, and Mary has chosen that good part, which will not be taken away from her."
(Luke 10:41-42)
Devotional
Administrative type people are "Thing doers." They are always about getting things in order and accomplishing a task. This is my inherent bent. It can be both a blessing as well as a besetting sin. When led by the Spirit, it accomplishes great and mighty exploits. When done in the flesh it exploits the Spirit. Martha was about taking care of things. Mary was all about taking care of people. Martha ministered to the tangible, Mary the intangible. Martha cared for the temporal, Mary the eternal. Life is twofold: tangible and intangible - temporal and eternal. When Jesus told Martha that only one thing was needed, He was teaching her that we are not to be as concerned with the physical needs as we are to be concerned with our Spiritual needs. The greater need is to be at the feet of Jesus. Let us likewise choose the good part; the part found at the feet of Jesus.
