Title

A Rod of Pride

Scripture
In the mouth of a fool is a rod of pride, but the lips of the wise will preserve them.
(Proverbs 14:3)
Devotional
Prideful arrogance is a self-imposed demand for punishment and reproof. There is nothing worse than prideful ignorance—those knowing the least proclaiming it the loudest. It is repulsive for one to speak with certainty when there is not certainty to their words. It is a rod of pride. This rod is carried like a scepter and worn like a crown. However, it is a rod for the back and a crown of a fool. When someone comes to you carrying such a rod and wearing such a crown, avoid him or her at all cost. Mark the cynic—love them, but mark them. For the cynic will parish by their own hand. Seek those who preserve life, not those who destroy it. Avoid those who boast in themselves and embrace those who boast in the Lord. If you find yourself boasting about that which you are going to accomplish, beware, it is most likely a rod of pride. Proverbs furthermore instructs, “Let another man praise you, and not your own mouth; A stranger, and not your own lips.”[1]
