Title

It's Not About Stuff

Scripture
"Take heed and beware of covetousness, for one's life does not consist in the abundance of the things he possesses."
(Luke 12:15)
Devotional
The society of our age has been called materialistic. Yet it appears to me that the only people who say so are those who do not have the material possessions they desire. Nevertheless, there is a strong element of truth to the statement. Much of the materials we possess, possess us instead. Covetousness is evident by the debt we are willing to acquire to have the stuff we inordinately desire (No rhyme intended). Life is more than stuff. Things may buy a measure of temporal happiness, but lasting joy comes from what we do with the stuff we have. We are furthermore instructed, "Let your conduct be without covetousness; be content with such things as you have. For He Himself has said, ‘I will never leave you nor forsake you.’” [1] Here is what I know, when I learn to be content with the measure I have, God increases my measure. Therefore, take heed and beware of covetousness.
