Words Are Power

Scripture
Heaven and earth will pass away, but My words will by no means pass away.
(Luke 21:33)
Devotional
What has been accomplished in our lives without the use of words? The answer would have to be very little or nothing at all. Whether spoken, written or implied, words are powerful. The Word of God is the power of God. The apostle Paul says of it, “For I am not ashamed of the gospel of Christ, for it is the power of God.”[1] Words have power because once they go forth they can never return. We can apologize for them and we can recant them. However, for the most part they have already made their impact—whether for good or evil. God’s Word will always accomplish that which He has intended it to accomplish. God says through the prophet Isaiah, “So shall My word be that goes forth from My mouth; it shall not return to Me void, But it shall accomplish what I please, and it shall prosper in the thing for which I sent it.”[2] Therefore, when we speak, let us speak as if we are speaking the very oracles of God.[3]
