Title

The Foundation Of Obedience

Scripture
A wise son makes a father glad, but a foolish man despises his mother.
(Proverbs 15:20)
Devotional
This often repeated Proverb is a foundation of obedience. As a senior pastor, I more than encourage our youth pastors and leaders to teach our middle-school and elementary-school age children one thing, "Honor your father and mother." This is not only the first commandment with promise,[2] but it ought to be the first commandment taught to our children. Anytime we relegate our children to another authority other than their parents, we are assigning them to a lesser authority. If a son or daughter is obedient to his or her parents, that child will prove to be wise. On the other hand, if they disregard the teachings of their parents they will inevitably prove themselves foolish. I am sure that the naysayers can and will come up with a myriad of hypothetical situations that seldom if ever exist. Nevertheless, The most repeated of the commandments holds true, "Honor your father and mother."
