Title

Hunger Is A Good Thing

Scripture
The person who labors, labors for himself, For his hungry mouth drives him on.
(Proverbs 16:26)
Devotional
Without hunger mankind will not work. Think about your abilities and willingness to work with a full stomach. Your body is weary and your mind is lethargic. The same applies when we become emotionally and physically satisfied—there remains no appetite for work. Without a hunger to succeed there will be no appetite to achieve. Therefore we are to find those things in life for which we hunger. We are to hunger first and foremost for the things of God. Jesus said, “Blessed are those who hunger and thirst for righteousness, For they shall be filled.”[1] The problem with too many of us is that we are too easily satisfied with too little. We are to learn the difference between contentment and satisfaction. To be content is to enjoy life’s journey. To be satisfied is to stop at life’s journey. We need to maintain a hunger for life, never being satisfied with our achievements and successes—always hungering for all that God has in store for us.
