Trivia

Scripture
Listen, for I will speak of excellent things, and from the opening of my lips will come right things.
(Proverbs 8:6)
Devotional
I enjoy trivia as much as the next person, but trivia is just that. It is a knowledge that is good for games and entertainment, but adds little to wisdom. To know Bible trivia for example may impress some, but most likely adds nothing to the knowledge and wisdom God is seeking in those who love Him. To know the names and places without knowing the work of God in them is trivial. To know doctrine without application and to hold to a philosophy instead of to Christ is likewise small and negligible. Trivia therefore by far is not an excellent thing. The knowledge of the Holy One is the excellent thing. To "Know Him and the power of His resurrection, and the fellowship of His sufferings, being conformed to His death,"[1] is excellent knowledge. Religious trivia is one of the deceiver's tools to get God's people away from excellent and right things. Do not be fooled by it. What you know does not compare to who you are and what you do.
