Title

Prudence Preserves

Scripture
Houses and riches are an inheritance from fathers, but a prudent wife is from the Lord.
(Proverbs 19:14)
Devotional
We may inherit riches, but we choose our spouses. Therefore, the wise will choose a godly husband or wife. A prudent spouse will preserve an inheritance. Prudence is a gift from God. It is a gift to be sought. It is seldom innate, but mostly received as a byproduct of obedience to God. It is for this and many other reasons that we are not to "Be unequally yoked together with unbelievers."[1] A spouse that lacks prudence will squander an inheritance and riches. Instead of being careful they will be careless. Instead of being thankful they will never be satisfied. Understand that the character flaws before marriage are enhanced after marriage. And the positive character traits are usually diminished. Prudence preserves inheritances and riches as well as marriages. It is a gift from God to be sought.
