Title

Why Anger Authority?

Scripture
The wrath of a king is like the roaring of a lion; whoever provokes him to anger sins against his own life.
(Proverbs 20:2)
Devotional
Like it or not, there is authority in the land. God has placed those over us to rule, lead and discipline—from parents to law enforcement. To anger these is more than not wise.  It is foolishness. Romans 13:1 tells us, “Let every soul be subject to the governing authorities. For there is no authority except from God, and the authorities that exist are appointed by God.” In every realm there is government, a way things are to be done. Where there is government, there is authority. When we provoke the authority to anger, we are doing so because we are violating the way. We are in rebellion. Therefore we sin against our own lives. This proverb is not so much a warning with regard to the anger of leadership as it is a warning against rebellion against leadership.  We can always appeal, but there is no room for anarchy.
