Title

Why Seek Another Drink?

Scripture
"They have struck me, but I was not hurt; they have beaten me, but I did not feel it. When shall I awake, that I may seek another drink?",
(Proverbs 23:32-35)
Devotional
Here we see the foolishness of drunkenness. Proverbs gives an ugly analogy, "As a dog returns to his own vomit, so a fool repeats his folly."[1] Drunkenness is sin for the believer. Know some might say, "I drink alcohol, but I do not get intoxicated." Well, let me ask you, "How much does it take to get you drunk?" What level of alcohol impairs your abilities, slows down your reactions? Is it one drink of liquor or a couple of beers? What puts you in an unnatural state of mind? Whatever it is, I am convinced that any unnatural state of mind is a vulnerable state of mind. When your thinking is impaired, your defenses are weakened as well. I do not intend to coerce or instill guilt. I do intend to warn and instill caution. Alcohol is an addictive drug, a foolish recreation. "Whoever is led astray by it is not wise."[2]
