Title

A Godly Rebuke Prospers

Scripture
He who rebukes a man will find more favor afterward than he who flatters with the tongue.
(Proverbs 28:23)
Devotional
It takes several things to rebuke another: First and foremost, it takes love. You cannot rebuke another rightly without loving them. Secondly it takes a relationship. The greater the relationship the greater the ability to give a loving rebuke. And it takes God given authority. Without authority you have no right or business rebuking another. This authority is not self-proclaimed. But God ordained. Parents, shepherds, government authorities are all ordained by God to rebuke with all authority. The apostle Paul so instructed Titus, "Speak these things, exhort, and rebuke with all authority. Let no one despise you."[1] I you rebuke those who fall into these categories, you will find favor with them and God. We mistakenly think that favor is found through the guise of flattery. It is most certainly not. Therefore learn to give and receive a godly rebuke. It will serve you and others well.
