Title

Admonition Against Harlotry

Scripture
Whoever loves wisdom makes his father rejoice, but a companion of harlots wastes his wealth.
(Proverbs 29:3)
Devotional
Who or what are the harlots of your life? Maybe they are truly harlots: the harlot of promiscuous behavior, the harlot of lustful thoughts, or the harlot of various pornographies. These, along with any other harlotry will waste not only your wealth, but your health as well. They may be pleasurable for a season, but their end is the way of death—death of dreams, goals and even the death of body and soul. Here, in this proverb, we have the instructions of a wise father to his son. He gives both a promise and an admonition. The promise is that the son would bless the father by loving wisdom instead of the harlots of this world. The admonition is that his wealth, both earned and inherited will be wasted if the son’s vigor is given to that which destroys life, harlotry. Let us therefore be lovers of wisdom and void of the pleasures of harlotry. Let us bless our fathers and keep our wealth.
