The apostle's final word in his first letter is as applicable today as it was when it was first penned. Three aspects of truth are communicated to us: First, we are children of God and we are to be as children under authority. Secondly, as there were idols then there are idols today. They may not be carved images that we worship, nonetheless, there are things that can and often do take the place of the living God in our lives. These can be anything from people to possessions or desires to lusts. No one or no thing is to have any priority over our love for and worship of the one true God as reveled in Christ Jesus. Anything placed before Him can be categorized as an idol. The very last word is "Amen," which simply means, let it be. It confirms what has been said and verifies a commitment to uphold and obey by faith what we have heard.
