Title

Knowing The Difference

Scripture
When pride comes, then comes shame; but with the humble is wisdom.
(Proverbs 11:2)
Devotional
Herein is a rule without exception. The only question is when will the shame come to the prideful and when will the wisdom come for the humble. Pride may have its season of arrogance, but shame will defeat it. The key is knowing the difference between the two. One can be mistaken for the other. For example, many see shyness as a sign of humility, but it is often a result of hidden pride. Being ashamed of whom God has made you is a false sense of humility; it is a hidden pride. Humility is always accompanied by meekness. Meekness is by no means weakness. It is strength under control. It is knowing who you are in Christ and knowing that the source of your strength is likewise Christ. Now the clear evidence of pride is thinking more highly of oneself than he or she should. Humility is thinking soberly of self.[16]
