To Whom Do You Listen?

Scripture
An evildoer gives heed to false lips; a liar listens eagerly to a spiteful tongue.
(Proverbs 17:4)
Devotional
To whom and what do you listen? Much of the information we listen to and heed is nothing but tabloid talk and gossiping conversation. Our text defines those who seek only agreement instead of honest counsel as evildoers and liars. May I add, especially those who seek the destruction or defamation of another. If what we seek is justification for our actions and deeds, we may be seeking to justify our sin. If we give heed to deceitfulness and lies we are evildoers and liars ourselves. Let us be very careful with regard to what we hear and give heed. Make sure that the questions we ask are honest questions, not accusations and innuendos. Learn to distinguish false lips and spiteful tongues from honest, wise counsel. If you do not, you either are or will become an evildoer. And in turn will become one who has false lips and a spiteful tongue.
