What Godly Leaders Know

Scripture
It is God who avenges me, and subdues the peoples under me; He delivers me from my enemies.
(Psalm 18:47-48)
Devotional
Vengeance and coercion are not to be the tools by which we lead. Those who attempt to lead by mandate and attempt to impose their judgments on others verge on leading by tyranny. Jesus taught this clearly when He said, “You know that the rulers of the Gentiles lord it over them, and those who are great exercise authority over them. Yet it shall not be so among you; but whoever desires to become great among you, let him be your servant. And whoever desires to be first among you, let him be your slave---just as the Son of Man did not come to be served, but to serve, and to give His life a ransom for many.”(1) If there are folks who are to follow you, it must be God who places them under your designated authority. If they turn against you, it is God who will avenge you. And if they fight against you, it is God who will deliver you. He makes no exceptions and He does not change.
