Title

We Do Not Have To Sin

Scripture
When a man or a woman commits any sin . . . then he shall confess the sin . . . (and) make restitution...
(Numbers 5:6-7)
Devotional
Our text says that we are to confess our sin, not make excuses for it. Because of our sin nature, mankind will for the most part do his best to justify himself in his sin. We make excuses by placing blame on anything or anyone other than ourselves. We blame our parents for not raising us correctly. We blame the government for not giving us everything we want. We blame everything from our genetics to the environment. There is only one who is to blame for my sin, me! I will either choose to sin or I will refrain from sinning. No man or woman will ever stand before a holy God and be judged innocent because they had no control over their sin. There is only one defense that will stand in heaven and that is the case brought forth from the cross of Calvary. Because of Calvary we are to have victory over our sin nature. Because of what Christ has done for us, we are free from the dictates of sin. We no longer have to succumb to its incitement. All we have to do now is confess and repent.
