Title

The Teaching of the Wise

Scripture
The law of the wise is a fountain of life, to turn one away from the snares of death.
(Proverbs 13:14)
Devotional
In our text the word “law” may likewise be translated “teaching,” thus making it a tad easier to understand. Blessed is the man or woman who has the privilege of having a wise mentor or teacher. If they are wise, they will listen with an ear of obedience even to their teacher’s inclinations. Whether it is an elementary school teacher or a preacher of the gospel, a wise instructor will preserve and enhance life. However, no matter how wise the teacher, if the student is indifferent or lazy, that teacher will profit little. I have found that, as it's been said, “When the student is ready, the teacher will come.” If you are having a hard time finding the law of the wise, it could be because you have not been listening. Remember, Balaam was able to learn from a jackass. (1) The ability to be taught starts with a teachable attitude.
