The Theme of Acts

Scripture
You shall receive power when the Holy Spirit has come upon you; and you shall be witnesses to Me in Jerusalem, and in all Judea and Samaria, and to the end of the earth.
(Acts 1:8)
Devotional
Here we have the theme of the book of The Acts of the Apostles. Consider first the power that is received by the Spirit-filled believer-what is it? The apostle Paul tells us in the book of Romans when he says, "I am not ashamed of the gospel of Christ, for it is the power of God to salvation for everyone who believes, for the Jew first and also for the Greek."(1)
Repeatedly we are told that the power of God is the Word of God. The Holy Spirit reveals the Word of God to us. Once we have the Spirit of God and the Word of God, we are to be witnesses of the love of God. We are to begin in our "Jerusalem," the place where we live. We are to reach our families, friends and neighbors. Then, if the Lord permits, we are to extend this witness to surrounding areas of influence and neighboring communities. And as we are accomplishing these, we are to either send or go to the end of the earth. Here we have the simplicity of the power and witness of the Spirit-filled church.
